Music and lyrics by Stacy Carson
The Workermen is a project of protest and concern. It arose from bands including Pop Co-Op, The Spongetones, and Mr. Encrypto, with critical assistance from special friends.
Steve Stoeckel – vocals, bass, guitars
Stacy Carson – vocals, drums
Bruce Gordon – backing vocals, vocal arrangement
With L. N. Smithee on lead guitars, and
Saffy Carson, Dilly Carson, and VC Carson on backing vocals
The inspiration for this song came when Stacy’s wife lost her aunt to covid-19. Shortly thereafter former Pence aide, Olivia Troye, related that the president was happy to get out of shaking hands with “disgusting people” due to the contagion risk.
We are all living with the consequences of leadership that avoids and “downplays” rather than protects or informs. As of today, 214,446 Americans have lost their lives to covid-19. That number will continue to grow.
We believe that 214,446 unique songs could be written to honor those lives while juxtaposing it against the disdain shown for them by the highest office in the land. We invite other artists to join us in standing against indifference and injustice by creating their own tributes.
All proceeds from this recording will go to the U.S. covid-19 response program of
www.givedirectly.org. Thank you for listening, and thank you for caring.
Sincerely,
The Workermen
